Should You Open Another Etsy Shop?

The information in this post can really apply to any online shop, not just an Etsy shop.

Alright, lets get right to it, shall we? Here are the 4 questions you need to ask yourself to help you decide whether you should open another Etsy shop:

1) Can You Handle It? Before you open another Etsy shop, you have to ask yourself: is your first shop in a tip top shape? is your SEO done? Are your photos fantastic? Is your shop fully stocked with variety? Do you have a long to do list? Is it doing well? If not, then ask yourself again, why are you opening another shop when your first shop is not in order. Even if you are doing well in your first shop, ask yourself if you can handle managing another store? It takes a lot of work to successfully manage another store. It's not like you can open a store and check on it every now and then.

2) Is it completely different from what you already sell? A lot of people think that they can sell children’s apparel with picture frames. Or sometimes they tend to think that it is best to separate their products into two shops. It is probably better to separate you shops when you have different materials and different target customers. For example: if you sell wood signs and children apparel, maybe its time for a second shop.

3) Are you selling to a different target market? Can you combine baby stationery if you sell wedding invitations? I would think again unless you are creating them of the same material (in this case you are, its paper!). On the contrary, if you have a different market and you have a different material, I would highly suggest another shop.

4) Do You Have Enough Shop Sections to Expand: If you have one shop that has 10 sections, and you foresee that you will expand into more sections and will no longer fit them all in your shop. Since you can not grow more than 15 sections, is it going to be too much? This is an indicator to get a new shop; if all of the above leans you toward getting a new shop.

To sum this all up for you: Can you handle another account? If you can, then consider if you are selling a different product material? Do you have a different target market? Then do you have enough sections to grow and expand? Etsy does not limit the number of shops you can have, but remember that the point is to be successful managing the shops you have, not just accumulating shops that are leading to nowhere and remember that it is a lot of work to manage just one shop.

So here is a popular question: Should I open an Amazon Handmade shop or a second Etsy shop? If you have another line that is successful already and you want to expand it to another shop, then another Etsy shop is the way to go; however, if you are not there in terms of growth and you still have a long way, then definitely consider opening an Amazon shop.
